CORZINE'S DAY IN BERGEN

After a Hackensack press conference yesterday, Jon Corzine had lunch with one hundred Democratic Mayors and Council members at the Stony Hill Inn. The lunch was followed by a meeting with both Democratic and Republican legislators from Bergen.

At 5pm Corzine went to Bergen County Democratic Headquarters for a meeting with rank-and-file Democrats.  There he was questioned by about 60 Democrats, some of whom expressed concerns about his plan and took notes.  Congressman Steve Rothman also attended the meeting at the BCDO and spoke to the crowd.

Corzine’s Bergen day ended with his second of twenty-one public town hall meetings on his package to raise tolls, raising up to $40 billion in future dollars permitting the state to borrow against those revenues now.

At 7pm County Executive Dennis McNerney introduced Corzine at the town meeting at Bergen County Academies where Corzine gave a thorough PowerPoint presentation. Later Corzine was peppered with questions from members of an audience estimated at 800 as a small group of protesters gathered outside.
