CHAIRMANSHIP WARS: FERRIERO CRUSHES WEINBERG’S CANDIDATE, ORTIZ FAILS TO DEFEAT YUDIN ON FIRST BALLOT…RUNOFF FOR GOP

Democratic County Chairman Joe Ferriero blew away Maywood Councilman Jack Savage in the battle between Ferriero and Loretta Weinberg for control of the BCDO.  Ferriero won 740 to 142.  Absentee ballots for the Orthodox Jews who could not attend this evening were not counted because Weinberg forces objected.  Look for Weinberg to have increasing difficulties with the Orthodox community in both Teaneck and her legislative district as fall out.

Meanwhile, GOP Chair Rob Ortiz was the other big loser of the night in failing to secure the 50% of the vote needed to be re-elected on the first ballot.  654 votes were cast and Ortiz received 277.  His challengers Bob Yudin and Ben Focarino won 262 and 115.  It looks like Ortiz is facing a disaster once opposition forces join together for the 2nd ballot.  Date to be announced.
