COUNCILMAN JOHNSON GIVEN OFFICIAL REPRIMAND BY ENGLEWOOD CITY MANAGER FOR SHAKING DOWN CITY EMPLOYEES FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO HIS “CLEAN” ASSEMBLY CAMPAIGN
READ IT HERE FIRST – Last night Inside Bergen received a copy of an official reprimand of Councilman Gordon Johnson from Englewood’s City Manager Robert F. Casey. Casey slammed Johnson for shaking down city employees on government property for donations to his re-election campaign to the state Assembly. Casey writes: “Given the fact that as a member of the City Council you must approve labor contracts which directly benefit those providing the contributions, your involvement in this could result in adverse publicity that would not be beneficial to either the City or yourself. Consequently I strongly urge that you to refrain from these solicitations under this or similar circumstances.” Senator Loretta Weinberg, and Assemblypersons Valerie Huttle and Gordon Johnson’s campaigns have all been targeted as a “Clean Election” by the state. How this impacts on that status is unclear. In addition, last week Weinberg, Johnson and Huttle held a press conference to announce their seven point plan to “Clean Up New Jersey” politics, including a ban on dual office holding (which Johnson practices) and curbs on Pay-to-Play to prevent campaign contributors from benefiting from their donations with favorable government contracts as is suggested here.
